The death of Giles Corey- Salem, MA

Giles Corey died at 81 years old in Salem, Massachusetts on September 19, 1692 from pressing. Pressing was a punishment for those who refused to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty in court. Giles Corey was arrested after several pre-teen children accused him of practicing witchcraft against them. In court, Giles had his hands tied after the girls accused him of afflicting them with fits.

At the northwestern base of Mount Fuji in Japan, there is a 12 square mile forest that has flourished upon the hardened lava left from Fujiyama’s last major eruption in 864 A.D. known as Aokigahara (pronounced ah kee go hara’) It is also called Jukai which translates into English as the poetic sounding “Sea of Trees”.
